Film Review: Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (2008)
The Good: One of the great things this film is that it get the kind of film that has not stopped working. Sporting an old-fashioned style and look, the film is a farce and a real drama, all at the same Time. Frances McDormand gives a sincere seriousness, this process as the tough but down-on-her-luck nanny Guinevere Pettigrew, a moment of despair, Unexpectedly, the social secretary is the flamboyant American singer / actress Delysia Lafosse (Amy Adams). What follows is a journey through the High Society and Pettigrew attempts Lafosse keep out of trouble, to hilarious and sometimes touching results. Apart from the excellent production design and graphics, the movie through real achievements on the display by the entire cast instead. You see clearly as if they all have a good time, but also those moments of drama and seriousness to the whole exercise convincing. Frances McDormand is gravitating to the center of this film, lending it credibility that makes it all work. Amy Adams is great as the ditzy actress reveals a little more hidden underneath. She plays the hysteria and drama to perfection, which is a riot in every scene she's in. The rest of the cast with their local old charm and sophistication. The film, of course, tends to have a happy ending, where all the characters end up with what they earn with the final sequence of low key and satisfying Thanks to the performances of the actors in this scene, which so easily could have been melodramatic and contrived. "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" is an entertaining Way to spend a few hours and well worth the trip.
The Bad: As with old-style Hollywood movies, some of what you see, is over the top. That may have worked fifty years ago, but it's not really work in a modern movie, no matter how good it is integrated into the narrative. Also, despite the best efforts of the filmmakers can not always paper over the modest budget on the screen, but they do a decent job with what they have.
