How do I go about causing a recall on a defective car part?
I got caught in the rain on a recent trip, and my tail light filled up with water. Before I could get it to the car dealer to ask them about it, the cover came UNGLUED and fell off. They are telling me it is no longer under factory warranty, and the BUMPER to BUMPER warranty that I paid for does not cover tail lights. Even if I pay for the repairs, what happens next time it rains on me? Any advice?

It’s a 2005 Dodge Caravan with just over 42 thousand miles on it. I live in dry climate, and most of those miles are highway miles. When I told Dodge customer care, all they could say is “sorry”
Unfortunately, a safety recall does not occur that fast. It must involve at least 100, 000 vehicles across the country and pose a threat to life. Even though a stop light is a safety device, the train of thought in the auto industry is that you have more than one stop light, therefore not causing a problem. I agree with you whole hearted it should be a recall because I see this all the time. I have owned a repair shop for many years and also worked for General Motors.
